Government Security Institutions Unable to Fulfil Duties, State-Backed Lawlessness Continues: PKMAP

QUETTA: The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) has alleged that government security institutions have failed to fulfil their responsibilities, while lawlessness continues in the province under alleged state patronage.

In a press release issued by the party’s central secretariat, PKMAP said the deteriorating law-and-order situation had created widespread disappointment among the people of the province. It alleged that false rumours and misleading reports were being circulated on a daily basis, further increasing uncertainty and fear among the public.

The party also alleged that Pashtuns across the country, including traders, businessmen, workers and people associated with various professions, were being harassed. It claimed that people were detained at police stations and released after allegedly paying large bribes.

According to the statement, travelling on major highways has become increasingly difficult, while people in the province are reluctant to transport their agricultural and orchard produce to different cities during the harvest season because of security concerns.

PKMAP criticised reports about possible suspension of mobile phone services, saying such measures would contribute to fear and insecurity. It also accused the “imposed and unrepresentative group” and those who brought it to power of allowing corruption, bribery, dishonesty and deception to flourish, which it said was weakening the country and its institutions.

The party said the province was facing severe insecurity, inflation and unemployment, while armed non-state groups were allegedly moving freely on highways, in cities and villages.

In view of the situation, PKMAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai has called for a jirga to discuss the issues confronting the Pashtun population and formulate a strategy for their resolution.

The three-day jirga will be held in Quetta from August 30 to September 1, 2026, under the chairmanship of the party’s Central Secretary Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai.

The party said the jirga would discuss alleged mistreatment of Pashtuns across the country, the law-and-order situation in Pashtunkhwa, guarantees for business and employment, and rights over the province’s mineral resources.

PKMAP said the jirga would seek solutions through constitutional, political and democratic struggle, with representatives of the wider community participating in the process.

The party urged all those invited to attend the three-day gathering and demonstrate solidarity with the people.
