Punjab Government Fixes New Wheat Release Price at Rs3,800 per Maund

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has fixed the new wheat release price at Rs3,800 per maund in an effort to ensure a stable supply of wheat and flour across the province.

Following approval from the Punjab Cabinet, the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Department issued an official notification implementing the decision.

According to government officials, the move is aimed at maintaining uninterrupted availability of wheat and stabilizing flour prices for consumers.

A spokesperson for the department said the federal government has directed Punjab to immediately procure wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO). As part of the arrangement, Punjab has been approved to receive an initial 300,000 metric tons of wheat, while the province has already obtained 200,000 metric tons.

The spokesperson said PASSCO has fixed the wheat price at Rs4,150 per maund, but the Punjab government has set the release price at Rs3,800 per maund in the public interest to prevent unnecessary increases in flour prices and provide relief to consumers.

The provincial government also reiterated its commitment to ensuring that roti is available at Rs15 across Punjab and has directed the relevant authorities to strictly monitor implementation.

According to the spokesperson, Punjab had requested a total allocation of 800,000 metric tons of wheat but has been allocated 533,440 metric tons.

The Ministry of National Food Security has instructed the Punjab government to submit its procurement schedule as soon as possible and complete advance payments promptly to ensure the timely supply of wheat.
