Balochistan Lawmaker Condemns Killing of Asma Jatak’s Father, Demands Immediate Arrest of Suspects

QUETTA: National Party’s Provincial Women’s Secretary and Member of the Balochistan Assembly, Kulsoom Niaz Baloch, has strongly condemned the killing of Master Inayat, the father of Asma Jatak, describing the incident as a direct challenge to the rule of law and the authority of the state.
In a statement, Kulsoom Niaz Baloch called for the immediate arrest of all nominated suspects and urged authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice without delay. She stressed that the bereaved family should be provided prompt and fair justice.
The lawmaker said that only two hours after Asma Jatak released a video in which she expressed fears for her life, named individuals she considered a threat, and appealed to state institutions for protection, her father was allegedly killed. She said the incident raises serious questions about the ability of state institutions to protect citizens and enforce the law.
Kulsoom Niaz Baloch said the family has faced a series of tragic incidents. According to her, Asma Jatak’s fiancé and maternal uncle were previously killed, and she was later abducted. She criticized what she described as the lack of effective action against the nominated suspects despite these incidents.
She further stated that when citizens identify threats to their lives and formally seek protection, the state’s failure to provide security undermines public confidence in the justice system. She emphasized that such cases require practical action rather than statements alone.
The National Party leader urged the Government of Balochistan, the Home Department, and law enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate, transparent, and impartial investigation into Master Inayat’s killing. She also demanded the prompt arrest of the nominated suspects, comprehensive security for Asma Jatak and her family, and the prosecution of those responsible to ensure justice and reinforce the rule of law.
