PTI Lawyer Urges Court to Send Independent Commission to Verify Solitary Confinement Claims

Islamabad: Barrister Salman Safdar, legal counsel for former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, has urged the Islamabad High Court to order an independent inquiry into their alleged solitary confinement and to summon both prisoners before the court.

During the hearing, Salman Safdar told the court that he met Imran Khan on April 8 for approximately 65 minutes, claiming that the former prime minister spent nearly an hour describing his alleged mental distress and conditions of confinement.

The lawyer also alleged that Imran Khan had complained about an eye problem during the meeting. He further stated that Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, who is 68 years old, had visited Adiala Jail 38 times but had allegedly been denied meetings with her brother.

Addressing Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Safdar requested that both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be produced before the court so their statements could be recorded directly.

Presenting his proposals, the lawyer asked the court to:

Send a panel of independent lawyers to Adiala Jail to assess the situation.
Appoint a local commission to interview Imran Khan.
Summon both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi before the Islamabad High Court.

Later, while speaking to the media, Safdar questioned the jail authorities’ report submitted to the court. He claimed the report did not include records of meetings, visitor logs, or documentation showing how many times Imran Khan had met visitors or spoken with his sons, Qasim and Suleman, by telephone.

According to Safdar, the report only contained routine medical information such as heart rate, oxygen saturation, and blood pressure, but made no mention of Imran Khan’s alleged eye condition.

Commenting on Bushra Bibi’s health, the lawyer claimed that one of her eyes had previously been affected for reasons unknown and said the legal team had not been provided with her medical reports or details of any hospital treatment. He added that, according to her children, her second eye was now also reportedly being affected.

The allegations made by Salman Safdar were presented before the court and in his media briefing. The court has not yet issued findings on these claims, and the matter remains under judicial consideration.
