Mohsin Naqvi Says Shehbaz Sharif Government Will Complete Full Five-Year Term

Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has dismissed political speculation about the government’s future, declaring that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s administration will complete its full five-year constitutional term.

Speaking to reporters, Naqvi said, “Let anyone make whatever political statements they want. The government and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will complete five years in office.”

Clarifying his recent remarks about the country’s governance, the interior minister said he had not criticized or “charge-sheeted” the current government because he is himself a member of the administration.

“I only requested the Prime Minister to conduct an independent third-party audit of all ministries and make the results public so that people can see the performance of each ministry,” he said.

Naqvi added that attendance in his own ministry is around 70 percent, and maintained that his comments about the system referred to decades of institutional shortcomings rather than the present government.

“I still believe the system has been deteriorating for the last 80 years. Had the system functioned properly, Pakistan would have been far more developed by now,” he said.

He praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s work ethic, saying the premier works 16 hours a day, and argued that better institutional efficiency would produce significantly stronger results.

The minister also highlighted the government’s achievements, including increased Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) tax collections, reforms, and what he described as important national successes. He said that if the prime minister had inherited a stronger system, the country’s progress would have been even faster.

Naqvi concluded by reiterating that, despite political criticism, the Shehbaz Sharif-led government will remain in office for its full constitutional tenure.
