Fair Water Supply to Tail-End Areas of Pat Feeder Canal Will Be Ensured, Says Balochistan Irrigation Minister

Chattar: Balochistan’s Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Mir Muhammad Sadiq Khan Umrani, has pledged to improve the Pat Feeder Canal system and ensure the fair distribution of water to tail-end areas, while vowing to take strict action against water theft and illegal extraction.
Speaking during a public engagement, Umrani said the trust placed in him by the people through a strong electoral mandate is his greatest responsibility, and he would not allow that confidence to be undermined. He said public service, transparent governance, and the timely completion of development projects remain his top priorities.
The minister said the Irrigation Department is accelerating reforms, with a comprehensive strategy aimed at making the Pat Feeder Canal system more efficient, transparent, and effective. He noted that the agricultural economy of the Nasirabad Division depends heavily on the canal, making its proper maintenance and operation essential.
He said the government is committed to ensuring timely canal cleaning, strengthening embankments, carrying out repair work, preventing water losses, and guaranteeing an uninterrupted and equitable water supply to farmers, particularly those in tail-end areas.
Umrani warned that illegal water theft, unauthorized extraction, and unfair distribution of irrigation water would not be tolerated. He said field officers have been directed to remain actively present in their respective areas, promptly address farmers’ complaints, and closely monitor the irrigation system to ensure every farmer receives their rightful share.
The minister also emphasized that transparency, quality standards, and timely completion would remain central to all ongoing and upcoming irrigation development projects. He warned that officials or contractors found responsible for negligence, poor-quality work, or unnecessary delays would face legal action.
He added that under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Balochistan, the provincial government is taking practical steps to strengthen the agriculture sector, improve the irrigation system, and enhance farmers’ livelihoods. According to Umrani, key irrigation projects, including the Pat Feeder Canal, will be modernized to boost agricultural production, ensure equitable water distribution, and provide long-term solutions to farmers’ concerns.
Reaffirming his commitment, the minister said he would continue working with integrity, transparency, and dedication to deliver meaningful development and improve the lives of people across Nasirabad Division and the rest of Balochistan.
