Flour Prices Reduced in Karachi, Providing Major Relief to Consumers

Karachi: Residents of Karachi have received welcome relief as the price of flour has been reduced following the intervention of the Karachi commissioner and discussions with the Flour Mills Association.

According to sources, a meeting between the Karachi commissioner and the Flour Mills Association resulted in an agreement to ensure the uninterrupted supply of wheat and maintain price stability. Following the meeting, the association announced a Rs3 per kilogram reduction in the ex-mill price of No. 2.5 flour, bringing the new price down to Rs130 per kilogram.

The Flour Mills Association said the revised price has taken effect immediately, and flour mills across the city will begin selling No. 2.5 flour at the new ex-mill rate from today. The reduction follows a decline in wheat prices to around Rs121 per kilogram, making the price cut possible.

Only a few days ago, the association had increased the price of No. 2.5 flour to Rs133 per kilogram, while fine flour was priced at Rs149 per kilogram, prompting concern among consumers.

Official figures indicate that over the past three months, the price of No. 2.5 flour increased by Rs24 per kilogram, while fine flour rose by Rs31 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, chakki (stone mill) owners said they are currently purchasing wheat at approximately Rs130 per kilogram and cautioned that flour prices could rise again if wheat prices increase in the coming days.

Consumers have welcomed the latest reduction and urged the government to implement long-term measures to keep food prices under control, ensuring sustained relief for the public.
