Raja Pervaiz Ashraf Urges PPP to Reject AJK Election Results, Boycott Third Phase

Islamabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has urged his party to reject the results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections and consider boycotting the third phase of the electoral process, alleging that the polls were not conducted fairly.

Speaking about the AJK elections, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf claimed that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was pushing the situation toward further instability. He also alleged that the Election Commission was under the influence of the rival party and held the Chief Election Commissioner responsible for the conduct of the elections.

He said that an assembly formed under such circumstances would not be able to address the region’s challenges. Ashraf further stated that if the elections were not transparent, the results would lack public acceptance. He clarified that the proposal to reject the results and boycott the third phase was his personal opinion, adding that the final decision would be made by the PPP’s central leadership.

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari also alleged that the elections in Azad Kashmir were neither free nor fair and said the party would not accept the election results.

PPP leader Nadeem Afzal Chan claimed the election resembled what he described as an “ultra Form-47 election” and questioned the credibility of the Azad Kashmir Election Commission.

Another PPP leader, Qamar Zaman Kaira, said the legitimacy of any government formed through such elections would be in question, alleging that the electoral mandate had been taken away from his party.

The allegations made by PPP leaders have not been independently verified, and there was no immediate response from the Election Commission or the PML-N regarding these claims.
