Iranian Media Claims Regional Energy Facilities Could Be Targeted if Iran Is Attacked
Tehran:** Iranian media has claimed that if the United States and Israel target Iran’s energy infrastructure, Tehran could retaliate by striking key energy facilities across the region, warning that such a scenario could trigger an unprecedented global economic crisis.
According to a report by Iran’s **Fars News Agency**, U.S. media reports suggesting that Washington and Tel Aviv may be planning strikes on Iran’s energy installations have increased in recent days. The report said analysts believe any Iranian retaliation against major energy sites in the Gulf region and Israel could severely disrupt global energy markets.
The report listed several strategic energy facilities that it claimed could become potential targets in the event of a military escalation.
In Saudi Arabia, the **Ghawar Oil Field**, the world’s largest oil field, was identified along with the **Abqaiq** and **Khurais** oil facilities, which are considered central to the Kingdom’s oil production and export system.
The report also named the **Zakum Oil Field** and the **Ruwais Refinery** in the United Arab Emirates, warning that attacks on these facilities could significantly affect the country’s oil exports and refining capacity.
Qatar’s **North Field**, the world’s largest natural gas reservoir, and the **Ras Laffan** industrial complex were also highlighted because of their critical role in global liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. The report claimed that previous Iranian strikes during a 40-day conflict disrupted nearly 19 million tonnes of LNG supplies and temporarily reduced Qatar’s LNG production capacity.
In Kuwait, the **Burgan Oil Field** was identified as another potential target. The report alleged that earlier hostilities affected around two million barrels per day of Kuwaiti oil production and caused an estimated $25 billion in damage to energy infrastructure.
The report further mentioned Bahrain’s **Sitra Refinery** and **Al-Maameer** industrial facilities, describing Bahrain as one of the Gulf’s most vulnerable states due to its dependence on these energy assets.
In Israel, the report identified the **Leviathan** and **Tamar** offshore gas fields as possible targets, claiming they supply the majority of the country’s natural gas needs. It also stated that operations at the Leviathan and Karish gas fields had previously been suspended for several weeks during an earlier conflict, resulting in significant economic losses.
