Arif Lohar Says He Struggled for Years Despite Being the Son of a Legendary Folk Singer

Islamabad: Internationally acclaimed Pakistani folk singer Arif Lohar said that despite being the son of a legendary artist, he faced years of hardship before establishing himself in the music industry.

Speaking to Jang Digital during his visit to Karachi, Arif Lohar revealed that he stood outside the gates of Pakistan Television (PTV) for 13 years before being given an opportunity.

“Even though I was the son of such a great artist, I still had to struggle. I progressed on the basis of my own merit,” he said.

The renowned singer added that today’s younger generation has access to far more opportunities than artists of his era. Reflecting on his early career as a child performer, he said he faced many challenges before achieving success.

Arif Lohar said that his iconic chimta and the folk song “Jugni” have become his identity around the world. He added that his music reflects the spirit of Pakistan and expressed confidence in the immense talent of the country’s younger generation.

Speaking about his visit to Karachi after several years, the singer said he was delighted to be back in the city. He shared that meeting old friends had been a memorable experience and said he especially enjoys the traditional cuisine of Burns Road.

Responding to another question, Arif Lohar said he has released 150 albums during his career. He added that his children sing as a hobby and expressed hope that they, too, would bring pride to Pakistan. He noted that love for the homeland and the fragrance of its soil are central themes in his music.

Commenting on Pakistan’s film industry, Arif Lohar expressed optimism that a new era of Pakistani cinema is approaching. He said the government is supporting the industry and noted that concerts are once again gaining popularity, with successful musical performances taking place both in Pakistan and abroad.
