Saba Faisal Clarifies Controversial Remarks About Daughters-in-Law After Social Media Backlash

Islamabad:Actress Saba Faisal has issued a clarification regarding her controversial remarks about daughters-in-law made during a morning show last week, saying her words were taken out of context, which led to unnecessary controversy.
During the show, Saba Faisal had spoken about the joint family system, the role of a mother-in-law, and the responsibilities of a new bride. She stated that in a joint family setup, the authority of the mother-in-law should be unquestionable. She also remarked that problems arise when a new bride designs her own wedding clothes, as it encourages her to assert personal preferences.
Saba Faisal shared examples from her own in-laws’ household, recalling how her mother-in-law emphasized being well-dressed at the breakfast table every morning, describing these as traditional values of the past.
Her comments sparked strong criticism on social media, with many calling them outdated and controlling rather than loving. Critics questioned how such views could still be aired on national television in 2025.
Several celebrities also reacted. Actress Fiza Ali said Saba Faisal’s remarks promoted control instead of affection, while Javeria Saud commented that living peacefully requires keeping one’s eyes, ears, and voice open—implying the importance of speaking up on important issues.
In response, Saba Faisal shared a video message on Instagram, apologizing for the misunderstanding. She explained that when she used the phrase “deaf and dumb,” she meant forgiveness and overlooking minor issues, not the literal or negative interpretation. Regarding wedding outfits, she clarified that her intention was to encourage harmony between a bride’s preferences and family traditions, stressing that her aim was love and care, not offense.
Despite the clarification, the debate continued across social media and within the entertainment industry.
A few days later, actress Nadia Jamil appeared on a show with her son and offered a contrasting perspective. She stated that women should protect other women and that if her son ever mistreated his wife, she would ask him to leave the house, emphasizing that it would be her daughter-in-law’s home as well. Nadia Jamil added that every household is different, and while daughters-in-law are raised by their mothers, her responsibility is to raise respectful sons.
The ongoing discussion reflects a broader societal shift, as many believe that while traditional values once emphasized silence and compromise for women, modern times call for open communication, mutual respect, and recognition of individual rights—especially on important occasions such as a bride’s wedding day.
