Fakhar Zaman Says He Has Fully Recovered, Sets Sights on 2027 World Cup
Fakhar Zaman has announced that he has fully recovered from injury, resumed full training, and is now focused on preparing for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
LAHORE: Speaking to the media, the Pakistan opener said he is back to full fitness and has resumed batting after completing his rehabilitation.
“I have fully recovered and started intensive training. My entire focus is now on the 2027 World Cup,” Fakhar said.
He praised the ongoing training camp, saying it has been beneficial for players over the past two to three months. According to Fakhar, the camp has allowed players to work on technical and fitness issues that are often difficult to identify during regular match play.
He also noted that several players who were previously not on the management’s radar had impressed with their performances during the camp, improving their chances for future selection.
Commenting on Pakistan cricket, Fakhar acknowledged that criticism increases when the team is not winning but expressed confidence in the country’s talented fast bowlers. He added that every team goes through difficult periods and stressed the importance of staying optimistic.
The left-handed batter confirmed that he plans to return to competitive cricket in the upcoming National Champions Cup.
Speaking about young cricketers, Fakhar said players with the ability to replace him in white-ball cricket are welcome to do so, provided they consistently perform.
He urged emerging players to continue working hard, adding that excelling in one or two Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches is not enough to establish oneself at the international level. He emphasized that there is a significant difference between domestic, franchise, and international cricket.
Fakhar also revealed that he has discussed his batting position with the team management but said some matters cannot be shared publicly. He stressed that he is always willing to bat wherever the team needs him and that the entire squad is united in its approach.
Looking ahead to the 2027 World Cup, Fakhar said he has fond memories of playing in South Africa, adding that the country’s bouncy pitches suit his batting technique and are a key part of his long-term preparations.
