Pentagon Awards Lockheed Martin Up to $58.6 Billion Patriot Missile Contract

Washington:The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded defense contractor **Lockheed Martin** a contract worth up to **$58.6 billion** to manufacture Patriot interceptor missiles, significantly expanding production following increased demand for U.S. air defense systems.

According to Arab media reports, the Pentagon said the agreement converts an existing one-year **$4.7 billion** contract into a seven-year program covering fiscal years **2026 through 2032** for the production of Patriot interceptor missiles.

U.S. officials said recent military operations, including the conflict with Iran, have placed increased pressure on America’s stockpiles of key defense weapons. The United States also supplied large quantities of military equipment to allied nations while expending significant ammunition during operations in the Middle East.

Lockheed Martin said the new funding will allow the company to triple production capacity for its **PAC-3 MSE (Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement)** interceptors by **2030**. The company also plans to increase its workforce at its Arkansas manufacturing facility by **50 percent**.

The report added that Lockheed Martin intends to invest between **$8 billion and $9 billion** by **2030** to modernize more than **20 U.S. facilities**, including the construction of new missile production centers in **Alabama** and **Arkansas**.

The **PAC-3 MSE** is the latest interceptor missile used in the Patriot air defense system and is designed to counter ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hostile aircraft.
