Sarfaraz Ahmed Hints at Changes for Second Test After Pakistan’s Defeat to West Indies

KARACHI: Pakistan Red Ball Team Head Coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has hinted at changes to the playing XI for the second Test following Pakistan’s 90-run defeat against the West Indies in the opening match of the series.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Sarfaraz expressed disappointment over the team’s batting performance, particularly in the second innings, describing it as one of the major reasons behind the loss.

He said Pakistan should have secured a significant advantage in the first innings but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

Referring to Imam-ul-Haq’s innings, Sarfaraz noted that the batter was playing well but could have helped put the team in a stronger position had he shown greater patience at the crease.

The head coach also lamented the bowling performance on the third day of the match, saying the West Indies should not have been allowed to build a 61-run partnership for the eighth wicket, which proved crucial in shaping the outcome of the contest.

Defending the decision to field five bowlers, Sarfaraz said the team management had assessed the playing conditions carefully before adopting the strategy.

He further revealed that Saud Shakeel and Abdullah Shafique remain under consideration for selection. However, the final playing XI for the second Test will be decided after evaluating the pitch conditions and match requirements.

Sarfaraz emphasized that the team management will look to address the shortcomings from the first Test as Pakistan aims to bounce back and level the series in the upcoming encounter.
