Maryam Nawaz Urges Opposition to Accept Election Defeat Instead of Alleging Rigging
Islamabad: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has criticized opposition parties for alleging electoral fraud following the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections, urging them to accept the results gracefully instead of blaming rigging.
Speaking about the election outcome, Maryam Nawaz expressed disappointment over Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks, saying that elections are decided by the people, not by the state.
She said that when the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lost in Gilgit-Baltistan, its opponents considered the elections fair, but after facing defeat in Azad Kashmir, they immediately began accusing the process of being rigged.
Maryam Nawaz thanked the people of Azad Kashmir for supporting PML-N in the first phase of the elections and pledged that the party would fulfill all promises made to the electorate. She added that the public had voted for progress and development and emphasized that the people of Kashmir were seeking better healthcare and improved public services.
The Punjab chief minister also criticized Bilawal Bhutto, saying he failed to present the performance or future roadmap of the Sindh government. She urged him to focus on governance and self-accountability, adding that Sindh would also progress through improved performance.
In a further jibe at the PPP, Maryam Nawaz remarked that those whose own roads are in poor condition should not claim they can improve the roads of Azad Kashmir.
