Punjab Imposes Section 144, Bans Bathing in Rainwater and Swimming in Water Bodies

Lahore: The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province and banned bathing in rainwater, swimming in natural and artificial water bodies, and unauthorized boating in view of heavy monsoon rains and the risk of flooding in rivers and streams.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, bathing and swimming have been prohibited in all dams, canals, rivers, lakes, and ponds across the province.

The notification also declared it illegal to bathe in rainwater accumulated on streets, roads, neighborhoods, and other public places.

In addition, unauthorized boating in lakes and rivers has been banned. Authorities said these restrictions will remain in force under Section 144 for the next two months.

The Home Department stated that the measures are intended to protect lives during the monsoon season by reducing the risk of urban flooding, strong water currents, and water-related accidents.

Officials said the decision was taken in view of rising water levels in various reservoirs and the increased likelihood of dangerous conditions during the ongoing monsoon season.
