Uzma Bukhari Calls Nawaz Sharif ‘The Prime Minister of Prime Ministers’
LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif does not need the title of prime minister, describing him as “the Prime Minister of Prime Ministers.”
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Bukhari praised Nawaz Sharif’s political stature while also discussing the Punjab government’s preparations for the monsoon season, drainage measures, and administrative arrangements under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
She said the Punjab government had completed its preparations well before the onset of the monsoon season. According to Bukhari, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired several meetings and issued advance directives to all relevant departments to ensure that necessary precautionary and administrative measures were in place before the current spell of rains.
Bukhari noted that this year’s monsoon season has been more intense than in previous years and pointed out that the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further heavy rainfall beginning August 1.

She said the Chief Minister had specifically directed authorities to carry out timely desilting of streams, drainage lines, and manholes to prevent water accumulation and urban flooding in populated areas. Despite receiving heavier rainfall than last year, she claimed that no area in Punjab had been allowed to remain waterlogged and that drainage operations are generally completed within a few hours of heavy rain, allowing daily life to continue with minimal disruption.
Comparing Lahore with Karachi, Bukhari said some visitors from Karachi had shared videos of Lahore’s roads and underpasses during rainfall to demonstrate the absence of standing water. She contrasted this with scenes of vehicles submerged or stranded during heavy rains in Karachi, attributing the difference to timely planning and effective administrative measures undertaken by the Punjab government.
She added that Punjab’s strategy of proactive preparation and rapid response had helped the province avoid urban flooding last year and continues to be implemented effectively during the current monsoon season.
