Maulana Fazlur Rehman Questions Critics, Urges End to ‘Outdated Tactics’ Against Politicians

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that attempts are being made to suppress his voice and that of his party through baseless allegations and political narratives, urging powerful quarters to abandon what he described as outdated methods of dealing with politicians.

Speaking to journalist Asif Nisar, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said he and his party had been subjected to serious allegations in an effort to place them under pressure. He stated that after defending himself and his party, a new narrative was being promoted suggesting that their statements were harming Pakistan’s image in India or benefiting the Indian media.

“Those who accuse us today of providing material to the Indian media should first look at their own past. When you were surrendering in Bengal, what message were you sending to India at that time?” he remarked while criticizing his opponents.

Drawing a historical parallel, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that during British colonial rule, those loyal to the British were considered faithful, while those loyal to the people and the struggle for freedom were branded traitors. He alleged that a similar mindset persists today, where individuals loyal to the establishment are labeled patriots, whereas those loyal to Pakistan, its Constitution, and its people are portrayed as disloyal.

The JUI-F chief said his party has made immense sacrifices for the country, noting that it had buried more than 200 prominent religious scholars who lost their lives over the years. “We have shed blood for the security and survival of this country and do not need a certificate of patriotism from anyone,” he said.

Addressing influential quarters and those involved in what he termed political engineering, Fazlur Rehman called for an end to “centuries-old, obsolete and archaic tactics” used to silence politicians. He stressed that Pakistan is living in a new era and that political forces should be engaged with respect and in accordance with contemporary democratic norms.

“We are living in a new world. The requirements of the modern age must be embraced. Change your approach and learn to speak to politicians with dignity and respect,” he added.

Commenting on social media and political propaganda, the JUI-F chief said his party lacks the vast financial resources allegedly available to its opponents for operating digital media campaigns. He claimed that neither he nor his party possesses funds for such operations but has nevertheless continued to counter large-scale propaganda efforts.

“We do not even have a single rupee allocated for a digital media cell, yet these humble people have stood against billion-dollar propaganda machinery and have not allowed the voice of truth to be silenced,” he said.
