Islamabad High Court Reserves Verdict on Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha’s Sentence Suspension Pleas
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday reserved its decision on the maintainability of the sentence suspension petitions filed by Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha in the controversial tweets case.
The case was heard by Justice Azam Khan. During the proceedings, counsel for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) objected to the petitions, arguing that they had been filed prematurely and were therefore not maintainable.
The NCCIA’s lawyer requested the court to hear its miscellaneous application first, stating that if the other miscellaneous application was taken up beforehand, their plea would become ineffective.
Iman Mazari’s counsel, Faisal Siddiqi, informed the court that he was prepared to present arguments on the miscellaneous application and suggested that both applications could be heard together if the court deemed it appropriate.
Justice Azam Khan remarked that counsel should ensure complete preparation, observing that it would better serve the rights of their clients. In response, Faisal Siddiqi stated that he was willing to waive any such concern and proceed with his arguments.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the Islamabad High Court reserved its verdict on whether the sentence suspension petitions are maintainable. The decision will determine the next course of proceedings in the case involving the controversial social media posts.
