Balochistan Sees Deadly Wave of Violence, Floods and Security Operations; Six Killed, Over 25 Injured
QUETTA: Balochistan witnessed a series of violent incidents, traffic accidents, flooding and security operations across several districts, leaving at least six people dead and more than 25 injured. Security forces also claimed to have killed six suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in Mastung, while law enforcement agencies arrested 16 suspects in separate crackdowns.
In Mastung, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the vehicle of District and Sessions Judge Abdul Hakeem Kakar on the national highway. The judge and his security guard, Muhammad Zaman, were killed, while Additional Sessions Judge Tariq Lashari and another person sustained injuries. The injured judge was shifted to Quetta for medical treatment.
In Nasirabad’s Tambo area, two men were killed in separate shooting incidents. In Duki, a young man who was shot while resisting an attempted motorcycle robbery later died from his injuries while being transported to Loralai.
Elsewhere, one man suffered severe electric shock injuries in Dera Murad Jamali, while two youths were injured in a motorcycle collision. In Usta Muhammad, police recovered the body of a newborn baby from beneath a canal bridge near a government high school and shifted it to a hospital for legal formalities.
Heavy rains and flooding also caused widespread destruction. In Zhob, a child was killed and several others injured after torrential rains hit Kili Tora Khula. In the Nasirabad Division, floods and canal breaches submerged dozens of villages, displaced hundreds of residents, injured more than 20 people—including women and children—and damaged homes, crops and livestock.
A high-level flood surge of approximately 134,000 cusecs passed through the Lehri River in Bakhtiarabad, breaching the Ghoghi Dam and affecting nearby villages and farmland. In Kohlu, four hours of continuous rainfall filled the Nehsuba Dam and damaged dozens of houses without causing casualties. Strong winds and rain in Sohbatpur uprooted trees and electricity poles, leaving several areas without power.
In Duki, unidentified attackers reportedly destroyed the Narhan Police Station with explosives, damaging the building but causing no casualties.
According to security sources, an intelligence-based operation in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung resulted in the killing of six suspected militants and the arrest of several other suspects. Authorities claimed that those detained included alleged facilitators and female suicide bombers, while weapons and ammunition were recovered from the site. These claims have not been independently verified.
Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested 14 alleged agents in Quetta accused of illegally facilitating services related to NADRA, the Passport Office, Sui Southern Gas and the Metropolitan Corporation. In a separate operation, Brashore Police detained two Afghan nationals and destroyed an opium crop.
Separately, allegations surfaced regarding the smuggling of non-custom-paid goods through routes near Winder and claims that some police personnel were collecting illegal payments from transport vehicles. These allegations have not been officially confirmed.
