Three Suspects Arrested in Dr Akash Murder Case Killed During Police Raid in Karachi

KARACHI: A major development has emerged in the Dr Akash murder case after three robbery suspects previously arrested by police were killed during an exchange of fire in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area. According to police, the suspects were fatally wounded by gunfire allegedly opened by their fleeing accomplices during a raid conducted by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

Media reports stated that the SIU police team had taken the arrested suspects—identified as Suresh, Ram Chand, and Anil—to Umar Brohi Goth in Gulshan-e-Maymar to identify the hideout of their absconding accomplices and assist in their arrest. During the operation, suspects present at the location allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the police party.

A police officer was injured in the exchange of fire, while the three arrested suspects accompanying the police team were also struck by bullets allegedly fired by their own associates. The attackers managed to escape under the cover of darkness, police said.

The injured suspects were shifted to a hospital but succumbed to their injuries on the way, according to officials.

The three deceased suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder of Dr Akash. Police allege that on July 13, the suspects, along with their accomplices, attempted to rob Dr Akash after he exited a bank in Clifton carrying cash amounting to Rs2.5 million. After snatching the money, the assailants allegedly opened fire, killing him at the scene before fleeing.

The suspects had been apprehended in a joint operation conducted by the South Zone Police and the Special Investigation Unit. Authorities said that three additional members of the gang, including one woman, remain at large and are wanted in connection with the case.

Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the attack and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
