Mahmood Khan Achakzai Condemns Arrest of Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha, Calls It an Attack on Civil Liberties

**Islamabad:** Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, has strongly condemned the arrest of social activist and lawyer Iman Zainab Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chatha from the federal capital, terming it an attack on civil liberties and a matter of serious concern for political, legal, and human rights circles.

In his reaction, Achakzai said that targeting individuals for political dissent is a clear violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and democratic values. He added that using the law to protect the interests of powerful groups undermines public trust in state institutions. He demanded the immediate release of Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha and called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding their arrest.

Meanwhile, the Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aain Pakistan also denounced the arrests, describing them as a violation of constitutional rights. The movement stated that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to peaceful political activity and freedom of expression, but such arrests not only weaken the democratic system but also create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in society.

The movement further demanded an immediate end to political victimization, strict adherence to the supremacy of the Constitution and law, and the protection of fundamental rights of all political and social activists across the country.
