GCC Accuses Iran and Houthis of Threatening Regional Security, Calls for Urgent International Action
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has accused Iran and Yemen’s Houthi group of endangering regional security and global maritime trade, urging the international community to take immediate and effective action.
Addressing a high-level meeting of the United Nations Security Council, GCC Secretary-General **Jassim Mohammed Al Budaiwi** said Iran’s ballistic missile and drone attacks against Gulf states, along with Houthi threats to block the **Bab el-Mandeb Strait**, pose a serious threat to international peace and global commerce.
Al Budaiwi stated that Iran’s actions constitute a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. He called on the international community to hold Tehran accountable and adopt a firm stance to safeguard international law, ensure freedom of navigation, and protect critical energy infrastructure.
The GCC chief further alleged that Iran has undermined maritime security by attacking commercial vessels in the **Strait of Hormuz**, laying naval mines, attempting to impose designated shipping routes, and repeatedly threatening to close the strategically vital waterway.
He urged the international community to take coordinated and decisive measures to prevent further escalation in the region, stressing the need to protect global trade, energy supplies, and international peace and security.
