Fawad Chaudhry Criticizes Rs43.91 Increase in Diesel Price Within Four Days

ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry has strongly criticized the government’s recent petroleum pricing policy, stating that the price of high-speed diesel has increased by Rs43.91 per litre within just four days, placing an unbearable burden on the public.
In a statement, Fawad Chaudhry condemned the government’s decision to revise petroleum prices on a daily basis in line with international market trends. He said the sharp increase in diesel prices has further intensified inflation and raised serious concerns about the affordability of essential goods and services for ordinary citizens.
“A massive increase of Rs43.91 per litre in diesel prices within merely four days is unacceptable. It is difficult to understand how common people are expected to survive under such severe inflation,” he said.
The former minister warned that the government’s policy has significantly increased transportation costs, food prices, and agricultural expenses. He argued that the already crippling inflation in the country has worsened as a result of the repeated hikes in petroleum prices.

It is worth noting that the federal government recently introduced a new mechanism for determining petroleum prices on a daily basis based on fluctuations in the global oil market. Since the policy’s implementation, prices of petroleum products—particularly high-speed diesel—have witnessed consecutive increases.
According to reports, the hikes have been attributed to volatility in international oil prices and fluctuations in the value of the US dollar. However, critics argue that the increases have pushed inflation to new highs, as higher diesel prices directly affect freight transportation and agricultural operations, including the running costs of tractors and tube wells.
The resulting increase in transportation and farming expenses is expected to have a direct impact on the prices of vegetables, pulses, and other essential commodities, adding further pressure on household budgets across the country.
