Moonis Elahi Mocks Government’s 35 Paisa Petrol Price Cut, Calls for ’35-Gun Salute’
Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Moonis Elahi has sarcastically criticized the government’s decision to reduce petrol prices by just 35 paisa per litre, describing it as an insignificant relief for inflation-stricken citizens.
Reacting to the late-night announcement of revised petroleum prices, Moonis Elahi took to social media and mocked the government’s move, saying, “Not 5 paisa, not 10 paisa, but a magnificent reduction of 35 paisa in petrol prices has been granted. Such a huge relief for the people deserves nationwide celebrations and a 35-gun salute for those who made it possible.”
His remarks came after the government introduced a new daily petroleum pricing mechanism and announced a 35 paisa per litre reduction in petrol prices, bringing the new price to Rs315.80 per litre.

While petrol received only a nominal decrease, the government simultaneously increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs5.71 per litre, raising it to Rs360.06 per litre.
According to official sources, the government justified the price revision by citing fluctuations in international crude oil markets. However, Moonis Elahi and opposition voices have argued that the minor reduction offers little meaningful relief to citizens already struggling with rising inflation and living costs.
Moonis Elahi’s sarcastic comments have since sparked discussion on social media, with many users debating whether the announced cut can genuinely be considered a public relief measure.
