Sindh Government’s Solar Project to Benefit 275,000 Families, Says Sharjeel Memon
Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has announced that the Sindh government’s solar energy initiative will provide electricity solutions to 275,000 deserving families across the province.
In a statement, Sharjeel Memon said that the Rs18.20 billion solar home system project, launched under the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is a revolutionary step aimed at improving the lives of low-income households, particularly those living in remote and underserved areas.
He stated that the project will benefit 132,000 families residing in off-grid areas and 143,000 families in on-grid areas, helping meet their basic energy needs.
Under the initiative, each eligible family will receive a complete solar home system package comprising a 180-watt solar panel, batteries, a central control unit, a charge controller, mobile phone charging facilities, a fan, and LED lights.
Sharjeel Memon added that work on the project is progressing rapidly, with more than 15,000 solar home system kits already distributed across various districts of Sindh.
The provincial government aims to complete the project by June 2027 and ensure that all 275,000 beneficiary families receive the solar systems.
He emphasized that the solar home system project is not only about providing electricity but also represents an important welfare initiative designed to offer meaningful relief to underprivileged communities throughout Sindh.
