Transporters Warn of Nationwide Strike Over Fuel Price Policy
Karachi: President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, Malik Shehzad Awan, has warned that transporters across the country should remain prepared, as a nationwide strike could be announced at any time in protest against the government’s fuel pricing policies.
Speaking on ARY News’ program The Reporters, Malik Shehzad Awan rejected the government’s decision to revise petroleum product prices on a daily basis, calling it unacceptable for the transport sector.
He alleged that the government’s policies are forcing transporters into a difficult position and warned that continued increases in diesel prices could severely affect transportation operations nationwide.
“If the government wants us to take to the streets, then it should be prepared for it,” he said. “We used to hold peaceful protests, but we will not remain peaceful this time.”
Malik Shehzad Awan further stated that the transport industry is already under immense pressure due to rising fuel costs and that the continuous increase in diesel prices could bring transport activities to a standstill.
He urged transporters across Pakistan to stay prepared for any future announcement regarding a nationwide strike, emphasizing that the sector’s concerns must be addressed before the situation escalates further.
