Suspect in Group Captain Asim Tariq’s Murder Breaks Down in Court, Sent on Seven-Day Physical Remand
Islamabad: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has granted a seven-day physical remand of Saad Abbasi, the suspect arrested in the murder case of Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq, while expressing strong concern over the gravity of the crime during court proceedings.
The case was heard by ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, where the accused was produced before the court under tight security by the investigating team and police officials.
Prosecutor Naveed Kiani informed the court that the suspect had been formally identified by eyewitnesses during an identification parade conducted at Adiala Jail. According to the prosecution, eyewitnesses Kamran and Waseem positively identified Saad Abbasi through the prescribed legal procedure.
The prosecution requested a 20-day physical remand to facilitate further investigation and the recovery of the murder weapon and other relevant evidence.
During the hearing, the accused reportedly broke down in tears while standing in the dock. Addressing him, Judge Zulqarnain made stern remarks, stating that his alleged actions had caused irreparable loss to the country and devastated an innocent family.
“What is the benefit of crying now?” the judge remarked. “You have caused immense damage to the country and destroyed an innocent household. You have no idea what a valuable national asset has been lost. Will your tears bring him back?”
After hearing the arguments of both sides and considering the sensitive nature of the case, the court partially accepted the prosecution’s request and granted the police seven days of physical remand instead of the 20 days sought.
The court directed the investigating authorities to complete the investigation at the earliest and submit the relevant report upon the expiry of the remand period.
The murder of Group Captain Asim Tariq has drawn significant public attention, with authorities continuing their efforts to gather evidence and bring the case to its logical conclusion through the legal process.
