Rana Sanaullah Says Bilawal Bhutto’s Speeches Could Escalate Political Tensions
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has said that recent speeches by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari could worsen the country’s political environment, urging political leaders to adopt a more responsible tone.
Speaking on Geo News’ program Jirga, Rana Sanaullah described Bilawal Bhutto’s recent remarks as inappropriate, particularly his criticism of Defence Minister Khawaja Asif. He said Bilawal should speak as a national leader rather than using rhetoric that could deepen political divisions.
Referring to Bilawal’s recent demand for Khawaja Asif’s removal from the federal cabinet over his remarks on Kashmir, Rana Sanaullah said the criticism was unwarranted and added that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has no tradition of expelling party members.
He also discussed the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, saying the federal government supports the decision of the Azad Kashmir government to declare the Joint Action Committee a banned organization. According to him, the government’s policy is to engage with protesters through dialogue rather than confrontation, while urging demonstrators to end their sit-in before their remaining demands are considered.
Rana Sanaullah further stated that protests were currently limited to Rawalakot and that election activities were continuing in other parts of Azad Kashmir. He said the government had asked protest leaders to postpone their planned long march until after the elections and maintained that most of their demands had already been addressed.
He also commented on constitutional issues concerning Gilgit-Baltistan, saying the matter of granting the region provisional provincial status should be debated in Parliament and suggesting that representation in the Senate could be considered.
Responding to recent remarks by Noreen Niazi, Rana Sanaullah claimed they reflected the views of former prime minister Imran Khan rather than her own. He alleged that the statements represented Imran Khan’s political narrative.
