Tahir Ashrafi Responds to Fazlur Rehman, Says ‘I Wish He Had Told the Whole Story’
Lahore: Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has responded to recent remarks by Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, accusing him of presenting only part of the facts during his address at the JUI Lawyers Forum convention.
In a video statement, Ashrafi said he believed Fazlur Rehman and his political group were under pressure, claiming this was why they had repeatedly referred to him in recent speeches.
Responding to Fazlur Rehman’s account of a meeting in which he said a religious scholar had congratulated him on the success of one of his public rallies before expressing regret the following day, Ashrafi said, “I wish Maulana had told the whole story.”

According to Ashrafi, while he had praised the success of the gathering during their meeting, he had also told Fazlur Rehman that parts of his speech were unnecessarily harsh. He further claimed that remarks made by some other speakers at the event were also inappropriate.
Ashrafi accused the JUI-F leader of presenting only part of the conversation and warned that if such an approach continued, he would respond in greater detail.
The statements reflect Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi’s response to Fazlur Rehman’s earlier remarks. The differing accounts represent the views of the two leaders, and no independent verification of the private conversation has been made available.
