Punjab Launches 2026 Electric Bike Scheme for Students, Offering Free Bikes to Female Students
Islamabad: The Punjab government has announced the Electric Bike Scheme 2026, aimed at improving mobility for students across the province. Under the initiative, 100,000 electric bikes will be distributed, with female students receiving the bikes free of charge, while male students will be eligible to obtain them through affordable, interest-free installment plans.
According to the announced eligibility criteria, applicants must be at least 18 years old (with age relaxation of up to 35 years for certain categories), be enrolled in a degree college or university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), possess a valid Punjab domicile, and hold either a valid motorcycle driving license or a learner’s permit. Applicants must also not own any registered motor vehicle, and only one electric bike will be allotted per family, even if multiple siblings qualify.
The government said the current phase of the scheme is limited to students. Although some official updates have suggested that government employees and female teachers, particularly those serving in rural areas, may be included in future phases, they are not eligible under the present program.
Applications will be accepted online only through the official Punjab government portal. Students will be required to register, complete the application form, upload the necessary documents—including a CNIC or B-Form, Punjab domicile, student verification, driving license or learner’s permit, and passport-sized photographs—and submit their applications. Successful applicants will be selected through a computerized balloting process, and they will be able to track the status of their applications through the online portal.
Applicants have been advised to use only the official government portal for registration and updates and to avoid unofficial websites or agents claiming to facilitate approvals.
