Motorway Police Sub-Inspector Martyred After Being Run Over by Dumper Truck on GT Road; Driver Flees Scene

ATTOCK: A Sub-Inspector of the National Highways and Motorway Police was martyred after being allegedly run over by an overloaded dumper truck near the Lawrencepur Toll Plaza on GT Road in Punjab’s Attock district.

According to Motorway Police officials, Sub-Inspector Javed Akbar was performing routine patrol duties when he signaled an overloaded dumper truck to stop for inspection. He requested the driver to present the vehicle’s registration documents and driving licence as part of legal proceedings.

Instead of complying with the instructions, the driver allegedly drove the dumper truck into the police officer, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Motorway Police spokespersons said that CCTV footage of the incident has been obtained and is being used as part of the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings and the First Information Report (FIR) suggest that the owner of the dumper truck allegedly instructed the driver over the phone to run over the police officer and escape.

According to the FIR, the driver acted on the alleged instructions, deliberately struck Sub-Inspector Javed Akbar with the vehicle and fled immediately afterward.

Police officials stated that crucial evidence related to the incident has been collected, and a case has been registered against both the driver and the vehicle owner under charges including murder and other serious offences. Efforts are underway to arrest the suspects.

Sub-Inspector Javed Akbar is survived by his widow and five children. His death has left his family, colleagues, and local residents in deep mourning.

His funeral prayers were offered in Mardan and were attended by senior police officials, relatives, and a large number of citizens. He was later laid to rest in his native area with full official honours.

Inspector General of the Motorway Police expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of the department’s full support. He said that Javed Akbar sacrificed his life in the line of duty and set an enduring example of courage, professionalism, and commitment to upholding the law.
