Governor KP Says Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Remarks Are Being Used by Indian Media for Propaganda

PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has strongly criticized Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over his recent controversial speech, stating that his “irresponsible remarks” are being exploited by Indian media as propaganda against Pakistan.

In a video statement, the governor expressed concern that narratives harmful to national interests were being reinforced by statements originating from within the country. He emphasized that the nation’s martyrs are a source of pride, a guarantee of Pakistan’s freedom, and a symbol of its impregnable defense.

“The dignity and honor of our national flag are indebted to the sacrifices made by the armed forces, Frontier Corps, police personnel, and other sons of the soil,” Kundi said.

He noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has suffered immensely in the fight against terrorism and remains the province that has rendered the greatest sacrifices in this struggle. He reiterated that the provincial leadership stands firmly with every martyr, their families, and the country’s security forces.

The governor further stated that martyrs should be honored rather than politicized, adding that there can be no compromise on the sanctity of their sacrifices.

The criticism comes in response to a speech delivered by Maulana Fazlur Rehman at a conference in Kasur on Saturday, in which he reportedly accused military institutions of interfering in politics and made remarks concerning the sacrifices of national martyrs that sparked widespread debate.

Meanwhile, a local court in Gujranwala has summoned Maulana Fazlur Rehman on July 28 in connection with a petition seeking the registration of a case against him over his controversial speech.

During the hearing of the petition, the applicant alleged that the JUI-F chief’s remarks could disturb public peace. Additional Sessions Judge Faisal Jamil directed the police to submit a report on the matter and ordered Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear before the court on the scheduled date.

The controversy continues to draw reactions from political and government figures across the country.
