Sindh High Court Orders Halt to Illegal Construction on Residential Plots in Karachi Admin Society
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered an immediate halt to alleged illegal construction activities on residential plots in Karachi Admin Society and issued a stay order pending further proceedings.
During the hearing of a petition challenging the construction, counsel for the petitioner, Advocate Affan Aziz, informed the court that builders Riaz Batla and Hassan Batla were constructing five-storey buildings, including penthouses, on two residential plots in the society.
The petitioner argued that Karachi Admin Society permits only ground-plus-one-storey residential structures and that the ongoing construction violates the approved building regulations.
Justice Adnan-ul-Karim questioned how builders had been allowed to undertake commercial-scale construction in a residential area, remarking, “Who granted permission to builders for commercial construction in a residential locality?”
The court issued notices to the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and directed it to submit a detailed response during the first week of August.
Until further orders, the Sindh High Court has restrained any further construction on the disputed residential plots.
