Khawaja Asif Criticizes Maulana Fazlur Rehman Over Remarks on Soldiers’ Sacrifices

Islamabad:Defence Minister **Khawaja Asif** has criticized **Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F)** chief **Maulana Fazlur Rehman** over his recent remarks, saying it is unfair to associate the sacrifices of Pakistani soldiers with their salaries.
In a statement, Khawaja Asif said Maulana Fazlur Rehman is a seasoned politician and a respected religious leader, and therefore greater responsibility is expected from him in the choice of his words.
He said linking the sacrifices made by military personnel in defense of the country to financial compensation is unjust and deeply hurtful to the families of martyrs.
“No one sacrifices their life merely for a salary,” the defence minister said, adding that such sacrifices are driven by ideology, faith, a sense of duty, and a deep commitment to the nation.
Khawaja Asif stated that while people may disagree with policies, events, or methods, they should not undermine the spirit of patriotism, devotion, and sacrifice shown by those serving the country.
He further noted that Pakistan continues to face the challenge of terrorism, with members of the armed forces, other security institutions, and civilians continuing to lose their lives. Describing their sacrifices as being motivated by salaries, he said, is not political criticism but a display of moral insensitivity.
The defence minister added that Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s remarks had hurt not only a national institution but also the sentiments of thousands of martyrs, war veterans, widows, and orphans.
