ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Daily) – Important details have emerged regarding the process of obtaining a marriage certificate and registering a nikah for married individuals. After marriage, the formal registration of nikah is legally necessary, for which either the groom or the bride can obtain a marriage registration certificate from the relevant union council.
To obtain a marriage certificate, the nikah nama issued by the nikah khawan, the CNICs of the groom and bride, the CNICs of both their fathers, and the CNICs of the nikah witnesses are required.
The applicant must submit all necessary documents to the relevant union council, where the staff verifies the provided information and documents. After verification is completed, the nikah registration is entered into the union council’s records.
After registration, the applicant is provided with a printout of the entered information so that all details can be checked. If the information is correct, the applicant signs the proofreading print and hands it over to the union council staff. After completion of this stage, the marriage registration certificate is issued.
According to available information, the facility for obtaining a marriage certificate is also being provided through NADRA’s Pak ID mobile app in specific districts. These districts include Jhelum, Chakwal, Nankana, Quetta and Karachi East.
Married couples are advised to complete the nikah registration process and ensure official records of their marriage, so that potential difficulties can be avoided in the future during legal matters and when obtaining other official documents.
