CCTV Footage Shows Fatal Robbery Shooting of Dr. Akash Near Karachi’s Three Swords

KARACHI: CCTV footage has emerged showing the armed robbery in which Dr. Akash was fatally shot near the Three Swords monument in Karachi’s Clifton area.
The footage, obtained by local media, shows an armed suspect running toward a vehicle parked outside a bank. The suspect first opens fire at a security guard before opening the car door and grabbing a bag containing cash. A second bag, reportedly still in Dr. Akash’s possession, was left behind. During the incident, the robber also fired at Dr. Akash, triggering panic and chaos at the scene.
Speaking after the incident, the victim’s uncle, Khem Chand, said Dr. Akash was accompanied by his father and cousin at the time of the attack. He condemned the daylight shooting outside the bank, saying his nephew had been brutally killed despite being an innocent citizen.

Khem Chand said the family belongs to the business community and that Dr. Akash, 28, had been serving at Jinnah Hospital for the past two years. He added that the young doctor was unmarried and questioned the safety of professionals in the city.
According to police, Dr. Akash had withdrawn Rs. 5 million from a nearby bank and was leaving in his car when armed motorcyclists intercepted the vehicle and opened fire. The suspects escaped with one cash bag containing Rs. 2.5 million, while another bag carrying the remaining Rs. 2.5 million was left behind.
Preliminary investigations suggest that as one of the robbers fled with the stolen cash, a bank security guard returned fire. Investigators are examining whether a bullet fired by the guard, rather than the attackers, fatally struck Dr. Akash. Authorities said forensic analysis is underway to determine the source of the fatal shot.
The suspects managed to escape despite the exchange of gunfire.
Following the incident, Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho took notice of the robbery and ordered a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation. He has directed police officials to determine the exact circumstances of the killing using scientific and forensic evidence and to ensure the swift arrest of all those involved in the robbery and homicide.
