Flash Floods Cause Widespread Damage in Diamer, Karakoram Highway Closed

Diamer:Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall caused widespread destruction across several valleys in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district overnight, damaging homes, infrastructure, and agricultural land.

According to local police, the floodwaters swept away multiple houses, trees, crops, connecting bridges, traditional water mills, and irrigation channels. Landslides were also reported at several locations along the **Karakoram Highway (KKH)**.

The highway has remained closed to traffic since last night near the **Goner Farm Nursery in Chilas**, where a flash flood blocked the route. The closure has resulted in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the highway.

Reports said stranded travelers include children, women, and elderly passengers, many of whom are facing significant difficulties while awaiting the reopening of the road. Travelers have urged the government to restore traffic on the Karakoram Highway as soon as possible.

Authorities and relevant departments are continuing damage assessment operations in the affected areas while working to clear debris and restore roads, bridges, and other damaged infrastructure.
