US Launches New Strikes on Iranian Targets Following Alleged Attack on Commercial Ship
WASHINGTON:The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it has launched a new series of military strikes against Iranian targets following an alleged attack by Iran on a commercial cargo vessel.
According to CENTCOM, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted a Cyprus-flagged container ship, causing significant damage and a fire onboard. One crew member has been reported missing, while the ship’s engine room suffered severe damage, leaving the vessel unable to continue its voyage.
The US military accused Iran of repeatedly failing to change its behavior despite previous warnings and opportunities to comply with agreed understandings following earlier attacks on commercial shipping.
CENTCOM stated that the latest military operation is being carried out under the direction of the US President.
Meanwhile, US media reported that American forces have begun striking Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz region. However, details regarding the locations, scale of the attacks, and possible casualties or damage have not yet been disclosed.
At the same time, reports of explosions have emerged from several parts of Iran. Iranian state television said blasts were heard near the southern city of Chabahar, while the Mehr News Agency reported explosions on Qeshm Island, as well as in Bushehr and Asaluyeh along the Persian Gulf.
Iranian authorities have not yet issued a comprehensive statement confirming the incidents or providing details about any damage or casualties.
