Prices of 22 Essential Commodities Rise in a Week, Says PBS Report

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has released its weekly inflation report, showing that the prices of 22 essential commodities increased, while eight items became cheaper and 21 commodities remained unchanged during the past week.

According to the report, the price of potatoes increased by 3.94 percent, while chicken became 3.70 percent more expensive over the week.

The report also noted that onion prices rose by 3.54 percent, while the price of wheat flour increased by 1.61 percent. In addition, the prices of eggs, beef, fresh milk, and several other essential food items also recorded an upward trend.

On the other hand, tomato prices fell by 23.3 percent, making them the biggest weekly decline among essential commodities. The prices of moong lentils decreased by 2.15 percent, while masoor lentils became 0.52 percent cheaper.

The report further stated that the prices of petrol, high-speed diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and sugar also declined during the week, providing some relief to consumers despite the broader increase in food prices.
