Mahmood Khan Achakzai Calls for Resignations Over Balochistan Incidents, Urges Parliamentary Solution to Crisis

Islamabad: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai has called for the resignation of those responsible following the recent incidents in Ziarat and Hanna Urak, while urging the government to resolve Balochistan’s challenges through Parliament and democratic institutions.

Addressing an all-parties conference titled “Save Balochistan”, organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Achakzai described Pakistan as a voluntary federation of multiple nationalities and argued that democratic institutions should remain central to governance.

Referring to the recent security incidents in Balochistan, he claimed that police personnel in Ziarat had informed their superiors that they were running out of ammunition and requested reinforcements, but alleged that assistance did not arrive in time. He said that, in his view, those responsible should have accepted responsibility and resigned.

Achakzai questioned the role of apex committees in addressing national issues, arguing that such matters should instead be debated in Parliament, including the National Assembly and Senate, through constitutional mechanisms.

He also stressed the need for political dialogue, transparent elections, respect for provincial rights, and greater parliamentary oversight. He called for the protection of democratic institutions, an independent judiciary and media, and constitutional governance as the way to address the country’s political and security challenges.

During his speech, Achakzai further urged state institutions to operate within their constitutional mandates and appealed for national consensus to resolve the issues facing Balochistan and the country through democratic means.
