Balochistan Opposition Says Government Has Failed to Ensure Public Security Amid Worsening Law and Order

Quetta: Opposition parties in the Balochistan Assembly have accused the provincial government of failing to protect citizens, expressing serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation across the province.

The opposition leaders made the remarks during a meeting chaired by Leader of the Opposition Mir Younis Aziz Zehri, where parliamentary leaders and members reviewed recent incidents of violence, terrorism, highway blockades, security checkpoints, and the hardships faced by the public.

The meeting strongly condemned the recent attacks in Hanna Urak and Ziarat. Participants offered prayers for those who lost their lives, expressed condolences to the bereaved families, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. They stated that attacks on innocent civilians are unacceptable and pose a serious threat to peace, social harmony, and stability in Balochistan.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the opposition said the province’s security situation is worsening day by day, with citizens feeling unsafe on roads and in many districts. The statement claimed that frequent highway closures, road blockades, disruptions to transport, and incidents involving the burning of cargo vehicles have become increasingly common.

The opposition warned that the deteriorating security environment is severely affecting trade, the provincial economy, interprovincial transportation, and employment. It said traders, transporters, farmers, students, laborers, and salaried employees are facing growing difficulties due to the prevailing uncertainty.

The statement further alleged that the government has failed to maintain law and order or protect the lives and property of citizens, claiming that its authority is largely limited to the Red Zone while people in other parts of the province feel unprotected.

The opposition called for impartial and transparent investigations into the recent security incidents, strict legal action against those responsible, and stronger measures to ensure the safety of national highways so that people can travel without fear.

The meeting also discussed the ongoing protest sit-ins in Hanna Urak and Ziarat, with opposition parties expressing support for the protesters’ demands and urging the government to provide justice to the affected families. They called on the authorities to resolve the situation through dialogue and a serious political approach rather than the use of force.

The opposition urged both the federal and provincial governments to adopt an urgent and comprehensive strategy to restore peace in Balochistan, prevent terrorist attacks, improve highway security, and rebuild public confidence. It also reaffirmed its commitment to continue raising public issues and advocating for the protection of citizens’ rights through democratic and constitutional means, both inside and outside the provincial assembly.
