Torrential Rains Paralyze Life in Mumbai as Flooding Disrupts Transport
Mumbai:Torrential rainfall has brought normal life to a standstill in India’s financial capital, Mumbai, with widespread flooding, transport disruptions, and damage reported across several parts of the city and neighboring districts.
According to Indian media, nearly **200 millimeters of rain** fell in parts of Mumbai over a 12-hour period, inundating low-lying areas and creating flood-like conditions. The heavy downpour also damaged trees and buildings, caused road cave-ins, and disrupted suburban train services.
The persistent rainfall affected not only Mumbai but also the neighboring districts of **Thane**, **Palghar**, **Navi Mumbai**, and the **Pune** region, where daily life was significantly disrupted.
Media reports said landslides were reported in Pune, while floodwaters damaged road links in several areas. Emergency teams evacuated residents from flood-affected locations and moved them to safer shelters.
According to the **Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)**, the city’s eastern suburbs recorded an average of **186 millimeters** of rainfall between **8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.** The western suburbs received **168 millimeters**, while the island city recorded **129 millimeters** during the same period.
The municipal authority added that **Vikhroli West** recorded more than **260 millimeters** of rainfall in just 12 hours. Other areas, including **Powai**, **Bhandup**, **Malad**, **Kandivali**, **Jogeshwari**, and **Andheri**, each received more than **210 millimeters** of rainfall.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as emergency response teams work to restore essential services and assist residents affected by the severe weather.
