Crowds Gather in Tehran for Reported Funeral Ceremony of Iran’s Supreme Leader

Tehran:Large crowds gathered at the **Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla** in Tehran during the reported funeral ceremonies for Iran’s Supreme Leader, **Ayatollah Ali Khamenei**, according to international media reports.
Reports said Khamenei’s body was placed in a glass casket inside the mosque complex, where mourners gathered to pay their respects. Many attendees carried red flags, which in Shiite tradition are widely regarded as symbols of seeking justice for the blood of a slain person.

According to the reports, participants chanted slogans against the United States and Israel, with some calling for retaliation over Khamenei’s reported killing. Several mourners told media outlets they had come not only to attend the funeral but also to express their demand for justice and accountability.
The reports added that some participants urged the Iranian government to pursue action against those they believe were responsible and to raise the issue internationally.
According to **AFP**, thousands of mourners waited in the courtyard of the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla carrying red flags. When the Iranian flag-draped casket was placed on a raised black platform, many in the crowd reportedly broke down in tears.

The ceremony included recitations from the Quran, prayers, elegies, and traditional mourning rituals. Images depicting different stages of Khamenei’s life, along with Iranian flags and black banners, were displayed around the venue before mourners were allowed to pay their final respects.
Authorities reportedly imposed extensive security measures around the mosque, closing major roads, erecting barricades, and conducting security checks on those attending the ceremony. Long queues were also reported outside metro stations early in the morning as people traveled to participate in the funeral rites.
