10 Prisoners Still at Large After Escape from Adiala Jail Custody; Police Launch Manhunt

RAWALPINDI: Ten prisoners remain at large after escaping from police custody while being transported back to Adiala Jail following a court appearance, police officials said.

According to media reports, a total of 14 prisoners managed to flee after allegedly throwing chili powder into the eyes of police personnel escorting them. Police have since recaptured four of the escapees, while search operations are continuing to locate the remaining 10 suspects.

Authorities have set up checkpoints and cordoned off surrounding areas as part of an extensive manhunt.

Police sources said the prisoners first created a disturbance inside the prison transport vehicle before attacking the escorting officers with chili powder and escaping.

According to the sources, the escaped prisoners were facing serious criminal charges, including robbery, murder, attempted murder, and narcotics-related offences.

The prisoners were being transported back to Adiala Jail after appearing in court when the escape occurred. Police officials believe the escape had been planned in advance while the suspects were in jail.

Investigators have also launched an inquiry into the possibility of outside assistance provided to the prisoners near the jail premises. A case regarding the escape has been registered at the Sihala Police Station, and further investigations are underway.
