Karachi BRT Yellow Line Corruption Case: Court Extends Physical Remand of Former Project Director

KARACHI: A local court in Karachi has extended the physical remand of former BRT Yellow Line Project Director Zameer Abbasi by four days in connection with an alleged corruption case involving Rs8.5 billion.

The accused was produced before the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South), where the investigating officer requested an extension of the remand, stating that one suspect in the case remains at large despite raids conducted at multiple locations.

During the hearing, Zameer Abbasi told the court that he had already recorded his statement and voluntarily submitted all the documents requested by investigators.

The investigating officer informed the court that additional records had been sought and were expected to be received on Monday. He also alleged that the accused had not provided complete details regarding his mother, wife, and bank accounts.

In his defense, Abbasi said the World Bank had instructed project authorities to increase fund disbursements, warning that failure to do so could result in funding being withheld.

After hearing the arguments, the court extended the accused’s physical remand by four days and directed investigators to produce him before the relevant court again on July 1. The allegations against the accused remain under investigation, and the court has not reached any findings on the merits of the case.
