Heavy Rains Trigger Flash Floods in Sibi and Lehri, Low-Lying Areas Inundated

Sibi: Heavy rainfall over the mountainous regions of Sibi and Lehri has triggered flash floods in rivers and seasonal streams, inundating several low-lying areas, according to the Irrigation Department.

Officials said intense rainfall in the surrounding hills has significantly raised water levels in the Nari River, Lehri River, and Chandia Weir. Current flood flows have been measured at 22,000 cusecs in the Nari River, 6,612 cusecs in the Lehri River, and 3,500 cusecs passing through Chandia Weir.

The department warned that continuous inflows from the mountainous catchment areas have caused severe flooding in rivers and streams, increasing the risk for nearby communities.

As floodwaters continue to rise, several low-lying areas along the banks of the Nari and Lehri rivers have been submerged. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions as water levels may continue to fluctuate depending on further rainfall.
