5.2-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Balochistan’s Barkhan, Injuring Three

Quetta: A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan on Saturday, shaking Barkhan and several surrounding districts and triggering panic among residents.

According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 19 kilometers. Its epicenter was located approximately 58 kilometers northeast of Barkhan. Tremors were also felt in Kohlu, Rakhni, and Musa Khel.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that the roof of a hotel collapsed in the Gangri area of Musa Khel district, leaving two laborers injured. Both were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The PDMA also said that the house of a resident identified as Fazal collapsed in the northern part of Gangri, injuring one person.

District authorities and rescue teams reached the affected areas soon after the quake. According to the PDMA, emergency medical assistance is being provided to the injured, while local administrations have been directed to assess the damage, accelerate relief operations, and conduct surveys to determine the extent of losses.

The latest earthquake came a day after a 4.2-magnitude tremor was recorded in Balochistan’s Sibi district. That earthquake occurred at a depth of 42 kilometers and caused no reported casualties or property damage.
