Former Pakistan Women’s Captain Sana Mir Condemns Gender-Based Criticism of Women’s Cricket Team

ISLAMABAD:** Former Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir has strongly criticized those targeting the national women’s team, saying much of the criticism is rooted in gender bias rather than performance.

Speaking on the issue, Sana Mir questioned why the women’s team was being singled out, asking, “Hasn’t our men’s team lost World Cups? Haven’t their performances also gone up and down?”

She added that no female cricketer had ever made derogatory remarks about male players, saying, “Has any woman cricketer ever said that a male cricketer is better suited to making bread in a tandoor and should stick to that instead of playing cricket?”

The former captain said that women cricketers were being subjected to excessive criticism simply because of their gender. She also condemned the creation and circulation of AI-generated fake videos targeting female players, accusing some individuals of spreading falsehoods and misinformation.

Sana Mir said the prevailing mindset was deeply troubling and stressed that meaningful progress would only be possible if society changed its attitude toward women in sports.
