Historic First Human Trial of Anti-Aging Gene Therapy Successfully Launched

ISLAMABAD: In a landmark development for medical science, the world’s first human trial of an anti-aging gene therapy has officially begun, marking a significant step toward combating the effects of aging at the cellular level.

US-based biotechnology company Life Biosciences announced on June 9 that the first volunteer in its clinical trial had successfully received the experimental treatment.

The therapy is designed to reduce the effects of aging by using a cutting-edge technology known as “cellular reprogramming.” The approach aims to restore aged cells to a more youthful state, enabling them to function more effectively.

In the initial phase, the treatment is being tested for eye diseases, particularly glaucoma and other vision-related disorders. Researchers believe the therapy could help reactivate damaged cells and improve their function.

According to scientists, the treatment works by utilizing specific genetic factors known as Yamanaka factors, which can reset the epigenetic programming of cells. This process may allow cells to regain characteristics associated with a younger biological state.

To enhance safety, the therapy includes a controlled activation system designed to regulate the treatment and minimize potential risks.

Researchers emphasized that the study remains in its early stages and is primarily focused on evaluating the therapy’s safety and overall effects. However, if proven successful, the technology could revolutionize the treatment of age-related diseases and potentially extend healthy human lifespan in the future.

Experts say the trial represents an important milestone in regenerative medicine and could open new possibilities for addressing some of the most challenging health conditions associated with aging.
